We do not contribute for such heavy pollution: MASSIA on MPCB notice

Marathwada, May 16 (KNN) After the regional office of the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) asked the industries in the Waluj industrial zone to connect the treated effluent to the drainage network, the Marathwada Association of Small Scale Industries & Agriculture (MASSIA) rubbished the claim.

Talking to KNN, the President of MASSIA, Balaji Shinde said that there are some people in MIDC who don’t want to any investment to come here in the industrial area.

Massia even rubbished the claims of receiving any such notice from the MPCB.

The MPCB's notice comes in the backdrop of the National Green Tribunal (NGT) directives to devise a remedial action plan for restoring groundwater quality and identifying industries in the area as well as their role in groundwater pollution.

Shinde explained that NGT fined one or two beer factories of Rs 10 crore and now the treatment is going on.

“No association was served with any notice,” he added.

An NGO had reportedly put up a complaint with Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) that there is some problem in the ground water.

“Soon after the objection we released fresh water for ground and treated the dirty water,” said the President.

In a letter addressed to all industrial associations in Aurangabad, MPCB's regional office asked them a couple of days ago to connect the treated industrial effluent to the corporation's drainage network within 15 days.

Talking about the Centralised Effluent Treatment Plant (CETP), Shinde said, “Industries in our associations are already connected with the CETP and those who are not connected with CETP call the tanker for water.

We do not contribute for such heavy pollution here,” he said adding that the Media raised the issue that’s why it is getting publicised. (KNN Bureau)
