New Delhi Feb 2 (KNN) Provident Fund is saving and not an income so how can the government impose tax on that, said Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh.
The Government is being criticised by the Political parties and middle class for proposing tax on employee provident fund withdrawals.
PF is not an income but a saving, General secretary of Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS) Virjesh Upadhyay told KNN adding that tax can only be imposed on the incomes.
“We have pointed this to the Government and they have assured to look into it,” he added.
The BMS official said, “In case the proposal is not rolled back, we will fight for our rights.”
The President of BMS, Baij Nath Rai, told KNN that the association would take the protest to roads in case the proposal is not taken back.
“The message is clear to the government and possibly they would roll it back,” said the President.
However after facing criticism on proposing tax on EPF, Union Finance minister Arun Jaitley said he will spell out the final decision on the matter when he replies to the debate on Budget in Parliament. After Budget 2016-17 proposed taxing 60 per cent of the withdrawal from employees' provident fund (EPF) on contributions to be made after April 1, the government on Tuesday hinted of a partial rollback.
