Chennai Feb 21 (KNN) Around 100 entrepreneurs from different parts of Tamil Nadu participated in the first day of the three-day vendor development programme-cum-industrial exhibition started on February 20, 2015.

The event was inaugurated by Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises - Development Institute (MSME-DI) Assistant Director, B Packiarajan in Chennai.

It aims to educate MSMEs about the requirement, quality, purchase practices and other aspects of companies and familiarise vendors in the southern districts with the procedures to become regular suppliers for PSUs.

This would enable them to improve and innovate on the quality of their products so that they are able to withstand competition.

Packiarajan encouraged small manufacturers to avail of the opportunity to market their products to public sector undertakings (PSUs) under public procurement policy (PPP) of the central government and to brace up in terms of quality to meet the standards of the buyers and requirements of the companies.

The programme has PSUs like Bharat Heavy Electrical Limited, Ordnance Factory Trichy, Heavy Alloy Penetrator Project, Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation Limited, Integral Coach Factory and some other industries put up stalls.

Under public procurement policy of the central government of India 2012, all the PSUs should procure 20 per cent of their annual requirement from small scale vendors. Various programmes for the development of small and medium industries are being promoted by the MSME-DI.

The programme also features seminar for vendors and exporters on Saturday and Sunday. (KNN/SS)
