5th Chandigarh craft mela begins

Chandigarh, Nov 30 (KNN)  The annual craft mela, over the years has provided a platform for indigenous artisans to showcase their rural craft traditions.

Held for the 5th consecutive year, the Chandigarh Craft Mela was inaugurated by Punjab Governor and Administrator Shivraj Patil at Kalagram yesterday.

The theme of the nine day fair this year is “western India” which has showcased folk traditions, arts and crafts of the western Indian states.

The main objective of the national level annual event is to showcase Indian handicrafts, handlooms and folk traditions, folk music and dances. It also features authentic fragrances and flavours of rich Indian cuisines.
 
The event is a joint venture of the Chandigarh Administration and North Zone Cultural Centre, Ministry of Culture, Government of India.

Over 300 folk dancers have been invited for the event. It also features a training camp on miniature paintings of Rajasthan in collaboration with Department of Cultural affairs, Haryana.   (KNN/ST)
