After IT/ ITeS, Gujarat gives industry status to logistics sector now

Gandhinagar, Sept 5 (KNN) After IT/ ITeS, Gujarat Government has given industry status to Logistics Sector in the state.

The state industry and mines department has issued a government resolution (GR) granting industry status to the sector.

The move aims at attracting investment into the state ahead of the 9th Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit to be held in January 2019.

Projects such as the dedicated freight corridor (DFC), the Delhi-Mumbai industrial corridor

(DMIC), the bullet train between Ahmedabad and Mumbai, the Ahmedabad-Mumbai expressway, the Dholera and Mandal-Bechraji SIRs, PCPIR at Dahej etc has created huge potential for the logistics sector.

After getting the industry status, warehouses, logistics parks etc, will now be entitled for benefits like acquisition of land, subsidies, incentives like that for manufacturing industries.

About 38% of the DFC passes through Gujarat whereas the DMIC’s area of influence covers 62% of the area of the state. The Gujarat Infrastructure Development Board (GIDB) has identified five areas along the Delhi-Mumbai industrial corridor (DMIC) and the dedicated freight corridor, for setting up of logistics parks. These are Palanpur-Mehsana, Ahmedabad-Surendranagar, Gandhidham-Samakhyali, Dahej-Bharuch and Hazira-Surat.

The government of Gujarat is also developing a multi-modal logistics park in Sanand on approximately 200 hectares of land.
