Ahmedabad Cotton Industry hit hard as heavy floods continue in the state

New Delhi, July 29 (KNN) With the exceeding levels of torrential monsoon rains and flooding over the past week, the industries in Ahmedabad region of Gujarat are severely affected. There are reports of losses in terms of infrastructure and machinery in the region because of the floods.

A.R Raval, District officer in a press interview informed about the situation.

He said that because of the rising rains, over 150 industrial units and factories are shut, causing a great deal of loss to the industrial state of the country.  Also the cotton and millet crops are washed away, which might lead to shortage of raw material for the cotton industry, even after the situation gets to normal.

According to the India Meteorological Department, rains this year are 4 per cent above the average in this monsoon that began in June.

Also the main airport in Ahmedabad was reported to be partially flooded, because of which the airlines are being diverted to other airports.

Earlier this week, Prime Minister Narendra Modi took an aerial tour of the flood hit area of the region and held meetings with the state government. (KNN/ DA)
