Imphal, June 7 (KNN) The Manipur Handloom & Handicrafts Development Corporation (MHHDC) Ltd has entered into an agreement with Amazon Sellers Private Ltd for e-market of handloom and handicraft products.

The memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed at the inaugural ceremony of the Manipur Heritage Expo at Imphal’s City Convention Centre on Monday.

Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister N Biren Singh said “With the signing of MoU, MHHDC will take a leading role for marketing the state handloom and handicraft products through Amazon”

“It is indeed very fortunate for the state to have a platform under Amazon and the interest shown by them to our handloom and handicraft products shows not only the uniqueness, but also the quality of our products, “he added.

Singh also spoke on the importance of Geographical Indications (GI) and said it was indeed necessary to GI tag the traditional dresses, craft items of the state’s tribes. At the same time, there should be no compromise on quality.

Weavers and artisans can seek financial assistance under the Startup Scheme as the budget for the scheme has been increased to Rs 100 crore from this financial year.  (KNN Bureau)
