AP should relook at taxation of agri commodities, says Food Processing Ministry

Hyderabad, Aug 26 (KNN) In order to facilitate the integration between industry and agriculture, the Food Processing Ministry wants the Andhra Pradesh Government to have a re-look at the taxation of agricultural commodities and also facilitate easier movement of agricultural commodities in the country.

State Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu met Minister of Food Processing Industries Harsimrat Kaur Badal in the capital yesterday. Discussions were held on ways to promote food processing industry in the State. 

Food Processing Industries Minister discussed the restriction on movement of fruits and vegetables across the States and requested the State Government to facilitate easier movement of agricultural commodities in the country. 

Badal informed that seven applications have been received from Andhra Pradesh for setting up of Food Parks and assured that the Ministry of Food Processing Industries would give all possible support to the Andhra Pradesh Government for development of the Food Processing Industry in the State.

Naidu highlighted that AP has 14 parks and 1000 km of sea coast and thus possesses great potential for promotion of food processing industry. He requested the Ministry of Food Processing Industries to work out a detailed study regarding the Food Processing Industries so that the entire value chain in the sector could be worked out and suitable schemes formulated accordingly. (KNN/SD)
