Arvind Kejriwal announces 6-day lockdown in national capital till next Monday

New Delhi, Apr 19 (KNN) Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Monday announced a six-day lockdown in the Capital which will come into effect at 10 pm tonight and be in force till 5 am next Monday.

After a meeting with Delhi Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal, CM Arvind Kejriwal addressed residents of Delhi today and announced a strict lockdown in the city which recorded over 25,000 COVID-19 cases on Sunday.

''The city is grappling with the fourth wave of coronavirus. There will be a small lockdown in Delhi from 10 pm tonight. Essential services will continue. Marriage ceremonies will be allowed with a gathering of only 50 people," Kejriwal said during a press conference today.

He further said that over the past few days Delhi has witnessed over 25,000 daily cases adding, ''Delhi recorded around 23,500 COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours. Such massive number of cases will crumble any functional health system in the world.''

Delhi's health infrastructure is under tremendous pressure at the moment, he said.

Earlier, the Delhi government had announced a weekend curfew that ended at 5 am on Monday.
