Assam CM calls for setting up border haats to formalise trade routes

Guwahati, May 30 (KNN) In an endeavour to boost trade in the north east region of India, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma of Assam has proposed for establishing border haats to formalise trade routes and tourism with the neighbouring countries. 

While speaking at an event in Guwahati on Sunday CM Sarma said that by setting up border haats and opening formal trade routes, we can open up new vistas of trade and tourism in the region.

Highlighting the geographically advantageous location of Northeast region he said that the region can facilitate as a link between India, South Asia and South East Asia. 

He also spoke about the “cultural alliance” north east region of India shares with its neighbouring countries.

CM Sharma pressed for a need of proper economic policy which is driven by committed cooperation to set the ball rolling, he said. 

He also underlined that for mutual growth commerce, conservation, culture, connectivity and capacity building are essential.   (KNN Bureau)
