Assam Government to reserve 25% of all public procurements for MSMEs

New Delhi, Oct 18 (KNN) In a bid to boost the business to the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in Assam, the state government is in the process of reinventing the preferential purchase policy, Commerce and Industry Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary informed.

Patowary said that under the amendments in the new policy, it will be made mandatory for all government and semi-government offices procure 25 per cent of all purchases from local MSMEs.

Citing the present problem with regard to preferential procurement from MSMEs, he said adding the existing policy was not being actively pursued and the changes are expected to make it more effective.

The Minister also informed about the upcoming first Global Investors Summit scheduled for early February in Assam. This event is expected to attract investments from all over the world.

Also the state government is holding talks to set up an industrial zone of over160 sq km to be converted into a land bank. (KNN/DA)
