Assam handloom exhibition underway in Kokrajhar till Sept 5

Kokrajhar, Aug 26 (KNN) A 14-day long handloom expo to promote hand-woven textiles is underway in Kokrajhar, Assam till September 5.

The expo has been organised by the Bodoland Regional Apex Weavers & Artisans Cooperative Federation Ltd. (BRAWFED) in association with the Development Commissioner, Handloom, Ministry of Textiles, Government of India.

The primary aim of the handloom exhibition is to facilitate and make local weavers aware through various programmes and also to facilitate the consumer to purchase genuine handloom fabrics woven by local artisans.

Lawrence Islary, MLA of Kokrajhar (East), had inaugurated the expo on Tuesday in presence of other dignitaries.

Speaking at the occasion, Islary said that “we have to develop on all sides and we need to capture the market by producing good products."

Over 60 participants from Kokrajhar, Baksa, Tamulpur, Chirang, Udalguri, Dhemaji, Sibsagar, Lakimpur, Tezpur, Boko, Guwahati, and other states like Haryana, West Bengal, Jammu and Kashmir, Uttar Pradesh and Punjab are participating in the expo with various hand-made products.

A customer assistant centre has been set up at the exhibition for conducting a market survey and analysis of demands, needs and preference of buyers of Kokrajhar.  (KNN Bureau)
