Guwahati, May 22 (KNN) The NRL Center of Excellence for Sustainable Materials Translational Facility on Bioplastic was inaugurated by Assam Governor Gulab Chand Katariya on May 20, 2023.

The facility is the outcome of an industry-academia collaborative effort between Numaligarh Refinery Limited and IIT Guwahati. 

The facility will house a 100 Litre Biodegradable polymer plant. It will also have a range of equipment related to the downstream processing of bio-degradable plastics such as Blown Film Machine, Injection Moulding, Thermoforming, Cast Film Extruder etc.

As per reports, the facility will manufacture a wide variety of items, including carry bags, toys, cutlery, decorative items, and small furniture, among others both from normal and biodegradable polymers.

The partnership between IIT Guwahati and NRL is a first of its kind academic-industrial collaborative venture and it will work towards production of biodegradable plastics utilising the waste and intermediate materials.  (KNN Bureau)
