Banarasi handicrafts now available on Flipkart

Varanasi, Aug 8 (KNN) Products made by local artisans and weavers of Varanasi will be available on e-commerce platform Flipkart.

A MoU was signed between Flipkart and district administration of Varanasi on Sunday to formalise the availability of their local products on their platform.

Present on the occasion Bhanu Pratap Singh, MoS MSME said, “Availability of MSME product globally has been made possible through power technology.”

Consumers across the country will be able to purchase products of states like Banarasi sari, metal and other handicrafts through e-commerce portals easily, he added.

The Minister hoped that Banarasi weavers and artisans through the pact will profit from the large customer base of Flipkart which is about 40 crore.

Focusing on generating opportunities and employment in UP Flipkart’s chief corporate affairs officer Rajnish Kumar said, “We are helping lakhs of weavers, artisans and traders to adopt e-commerce and have taken several initiatives in the past to promote MSME, weavers and artisans of UP and other states.”

The agreement was signed at a function held at Padma Vibhushan Girija Devi auditorium Chowkaghat.

Additional chief secretary MSME Navneet Sehgal, UP Minister Ravindra Jaiswal, divisional commissioner Deepak Agrawal and joint commissioner industries Umesh Kumar Singh were also present.  (KNN Bureau)
