Bengal hosts its first ever agri-business meet in Howrah

Howrah, July 11 (KNN) The Bengal government organised the state’s first-ever agri-business meet at Nabanna in Howrah district, aimed at exploring opportunities for linking agriculture with industry for the benefit of both the stakeholders.

More than 220 participants from different sectors of agro-related businesses participated in the meet.

“A core group with officials from Calcutta and the districts will be formed to chalk out a roadmap to promote agro-industries in the state,” chief secretary H K Dwivedi said while chairing the Agri-business meet on Saturday.

The state government officials took suggestions from investors in agro-based businesses to know how the state government could help them promote their businesses across Bengal.

Representatives of businesses like rice mill owners, rice bran oil producers, and poultry and fish feed producers deliberated on the individual assistance required from the government in order to grow their businesses with the help of farmers.

Earlier in the week, the chief minister, during an event, highlighted the need for more investment to come in for the development of the state’s rural economy.

Bengal is the leading producer of rice, jute, vegetables, and fish seeds. Maize and pulse production in Bengal has also increased in recent years.  (KNN Bureau)
