Patna, Mar 15 (KNN) In line with the central government’s plans to boost the textile industry, the Bihar government has submitted a proposal to the Union Textiles Ministry to set up a mega hub under the PM Mitra Mega Textile Park.

Informing the State Assembly, Bihar Industries Minister Shahnawaz Hussain said that the state government has identified 1,719 acres of land in West Champaran.

Hussain said, “A preliminary project report for establishing the park has been sent to the Union textiles ministry,” while responding to questions on the budget provisions made for the industries department.

The last date to submit a proposal from the state to the Union textiles ministry to acquire one of the seven ‘Mega Textile Parks’ under the PM Mitra project is March 15.

Hussain said that the state government has submitted the proposal to the central government after scouting the land well in time and making all required preparations.

Under the leadership and direction of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, the 1,719-acre land was identified for PM Mitra Textile Park within two days, and the initial project proposal has been submitted to the Union ministry of textiles after making full preparations,” he added.

The Cabinet committee has approved setting up of seven mega textile parks under the Pradhan Mantri Mitra Yojana 2022 for which an amount of Rs 4,445 crore has been allocated for the next five years.

The scheme aims to establish “holistic integrated textile processing regions” across the country.

The parks are a part of the government’s ‘Farm to Fiber to Factory to Fashion to Foreign’ push and will generate 1,00,000 direct and 2 lakh indirect jobs, per park.

Hussain also said that Khadi malls will be constructed at Purnia and Muzaffarpur as well on the lines of the Khadi mall in Patna.

The PM Mega Integrated Textile Region and Apparel (PM MITRA) parks will integrate the currently scattered value chain of textile products.

He further announced the setting up of Institute of Petrochemicals and Technology for B-Tech and M Tech courses on a 10-acre land in Bhita, jointly by the state and Union ministry of Fertilizers and Chemicals. (KNN Bureau)
