New Delhi, Jul 31 (KNN) In an effort to rejuvenate the textiles industry in the country, the Development Commissioner for Handlooms is establishing a mega handloom cluster in Bihar.

The project has been taken up by the Ministry of Textiles under Comprehensive Handloom Cluster Development Scheme (CHCDS).

The scheme has an objective to empower handloom weavers and build their capacity to enhance competitiveness of their products in the domestic as well as global market in a sustainable and reliant manner.

The government will soon be appointing a cluster management and technical agency (CMTA) for development of Bhagalpur and its adjoining areas as mega handloom cluster.
Towards this, the ministry is inviting bids from firms which have experience in carrying out evaluation studies of schemes for handlooms, handicrafts and micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs).

The firm should have professionals with expertise in handloom, project management, capacity building, evaluation of projects, market development, institutional development, etc.

It will be responsible for activities such as interacting with officials of the DC (Handlooms), state government concerned, weaver’s service centre concerned, CMTA, SPVs, weavers and other stakeholders, for which the agency is required to undertake field visits. (KNN/ST)
