Bihar to rope in pvt players in affordable housing

The Rs 59.75 crore worth project will be leased for a period 30 years on public-private partnership mode for which expression of interest has been invited by the state government.
Kankarbagh is spread across 900 acres and is currently one of the largest colonies of Asia and population wise is Asia’s second largest colony.
To ensure economic development of the place, the Bihar State Housing Board (BSHB) has invited bids for the development of affordable and quality housing for the people of the State.
BSHB has decided to grant of lease for commercial development of approximately 1.70 acres of Land at the Kankarbagh area.
Further, it is in the process of floating a 100 per cent owned limited company. The proposed company will enter into PPP with private developers and hence all construction and development activities will be executed through the company.
The private sector player on the other hand, will be free to develop a commercial mall, a shopping complex and an office.
It would include, “Complex, food and beverage spaces, branded retail outlets, banquet halls, hotels, multiplex etc on the commercial plot in line with applicable development norms and applicable Laws and within the overall framework of this agreement in accordance to his own assessment of commercial market in Patna,” said the notification.
Developers will have to do the designing, engineering, financing, procurement, construction, sub-leasing/renting, operation and maintenance of site.
BSHD intends to construct 1,00,000 housing units with world-class sustainable facilities in the state by 2015. (KNN)
