Buy2Sell keen to tie up with One District One Product scheme of UP

Lucknow, Nov 20 (KNN) Uttar Pradesh's (UP) One District One Product (ODOP) scheme seems to have marked its presence in foreign countries also as leading business to business platform Buy2sell has expressed its intent to sell ODOP products online.

Reportedly, impressed by the ODOP scheme of the Uttar Pradesh government, Buy2sell has sent a mail to the state's Medium Small and Micro Enterprises (MSME) Department where the company showed keen interest in selling ODOP products.

''ODOP products were attracting customers globally and it was also receiving queries about the products,'' the company said in the mail.

The company has further sought details of the products, including range and prices, so that it could further explore opportunities in the market and cater to the customers.

The ODOP was launched by the UP government to encourage and revive aboriginals’ arts and craft products. The scheme would help MSME to produce and promote products that are unique in the state.

The programme aims to encourage more visibility and sale of indigenous and specialized products/crafts of UP, generating employment at the district level.

In this project, one particular product is selected fr0m every district of Uttar Pradesh. The selected product under ODOP is traditionally famous for their production and manufacturing fr0m that particular district (e.g Lucknow is famous for zari-zardozi and chikankari). Many of these products are GI-tagged, which means they are certified as being specific to that region in UP.

The manufacturing process of a lot of these products are also dying community traditions that are being revived through modernization and publication.

Under the ODOP programme, artisans, production units and associations which are related to the selected products are promoted by lending loan, establishing Common Facility Centres, providing marketing assistance so these products can be popularized and employment can be generated at the district level.
