CAIT demands immediate promulgation of ordinance to stop sealing in Delhi

New Delhi, Sept 25 (KNN) Demanding immediate promulgation of an ordinance to stop sealing in Delhi, the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) has given a call for Delhi Trade Bandh on the same day i.e. September 28 when nation-wide trade bandh will be observed all over India against Walmart Flipkart deal and FDI in retail.

The decision has been taken in the wake of continuous sealing of shops in Delhi and no de-sealing of shops which are sealed since last nine months rendering traders and their employees at the verge starvation.

Prominent markets of Delhi including Connaught Place, Chawri Bazar, Chandni Chowk, Bhagirath Place, Sadar Bazar, Kashmiri Gate, Pahar Ganj, Karol Bagh, Kamla Nagar, Rohini, markets of North Delhi, South Extension, Greater Kailash, Amar Colony, Green Park, Kalkaji, Tughalaqabad, Khan Market, Rajouri Garden, Tilak Nagar, Uttam Nagar, Kirti Nagar, Jail Road, Laxmi Nagar, Vikas Marg, Lajpat Nagar, Shahdara, Krishna Nagar, Gandhi Nagar etc. shall remain closed on September 28, said CAIT.

Over the sealing matter, CAIT General Secretary, Praveen Khandelwal said that the traders of Delhi are suffering from sealing since a long time and the monitoring committee is conducting sealing as per its own wishes disregarding the provisions of MCD Act.

It has caused havoc in trading community of Delhi and the trade of Delhi is adversely affected. The DDA & MCD is threatening the traders to seal the shops by issuing notices and no one is listening to the woes of traders, he added.

He further said that under the circumstances, the stoppage on sealing has become must.

The Supreme Court has not given its approval to the amendments made in the Master Plan and has posted the matter for hearing in February,2019 which has denied any advantage of amendments to the traders and the de-sealing of shops in near future has no chances, added Khandelwal.

In addition, he said that DDA has increased penalty on conversion charges 12 times which is quite unfair.

He said “Whether conversion charges would be applicable in Walled City or not has become a big question as there is no official clarity from any quarter.”

Under the circumstances the Government should bring an ordinance to provide relief to traders from sealing with an Amnesty Scheme declaring status quo maintenance as on 31st December, 2017, said Khandelwal.

“The sealed shops should be de-sealed immediately and the notices sent to traders by MCD etc. should be withdrawn. 351 Roads should also be notified,” he added.

Besides, he informed that on the day of Trade Bandh, the CAIT will give a memorandum to Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh, Urban Development Minister Hardeep Puri and Delhi Lt. Governor Anil Baijal for demanding immediate promulgation of an Ordinance.
