New Delhi, Jul 15 (KNN) The Ministry of Tribal Affairs has earmarked a total of Rs 1200 crore as special central assistance for 2013-14 for the tribal sub plan being implemented in 22 states, as a special area programme, fully funded by the centre.

Taking into account the size of the tribal population in each state, Madhya Pradesh gets the highest amount of Rs 175.25 crore, following by Odisha with Rs 133.21 crore and Jharkhand with Rs 121.87 crore, according to an official notification.

An increase of 11 per cent over last year’s allocation can be attributed to the provision for an additional 120 crore for incentive projects based on the states’ performance in effective implementation of the tribal sub plan.

The funds will be used for employment cum income generation activities among tribal communities and development of infrastructure in those areas with a view to raise their economic and social status.

Priority will be given to sectors such as agriculture, horticulture, land reforms, watershed development, animal husbandry, ecology and environment, development of entrepreneurship in small scale industries, small scale trading and improving connectivity in tribal areas.   (KNN)
