New Delhi, June 21 (KNN) The Centre will undertake an evaluation study in respect of a host of financial incentives given to North Eastern states since 2007.

The Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP) will hire a consultant for taking up the evaluation study.

DIPP has provided for Rs 329 crore for industrial development in the north eastern states for the current fiscal.

In fiscal 2012-13, the actual expenditure under this was Rs 256 crore.

The North East Industrial and Investment Promotion Policy (NEIIPP), was notified in 2007.

The policy is applicable to the States of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Tripura and Sikkim and would remain effective for 10 years.

Benefits under the scheme are available to new industrial units as well as existing ones on their substantial expansion, irrespective of their location. The incentives are in the form of excise duty exemption based on “value addition” norms.

The benefits have also been extended, for the first time, to the select service sector, bio-technology and power generating industry, besides industries in the manufacturing sector. (KNN)
