Chandigarh education dept to engage organizations for skill development

Chandigarh, Nov 23 (KNN) In order to upgrade skills through significant industry involvement for better employability, Education Department of Chandigarh is keen to outsource skill training.
 
The Education Department of the Chandigarh Administration is planning to enter into an agreement with an organization to impart training for 60 days after 10+2 exam for 360 hours for skill development and placement of students.
 
The main objective of the initiative is to rope in private industry for support and coordination initiatives for skill development and hand holding for employment of vocational students.
Education Department will provide room for theory and practical classes; and semi equipped labs for the training of students of vocational courses in which skill development training will be provided.

Some of the vocational courses for which the training will be given are - Health and Beauty Studies, Automobile Technology, Food Production, IT Applications, Accountancy and Taxation etc.

After completion of two months practical training, the students will be able to use all the tools/equipment/gadgets/fixtures required for undertaking a job in that particular vocational course independently.

The training will make the students eligible to get placement in related work place on decent wages i.e. minimum of Rs 7000 per month.

In order to have the view of the private sector players engaged in the above areas Education department Chandigarh Administration proposes to organize a pre-proposal meet / conference here in December.

Education Department, Chandigarh Administration introduced Vocational Education in Government Senior Secondary Schools here in the year 1987-88 at 10+2 stage.
 
According to them, this is a distinct stream running parallel to Science, Arts and Commerce streams.

Presently there are 19 Vocational Courses in 23 Government Senior Secondary Schools here. These courses are broadly classified under four heads namely: Home Science, Health and Para-Medical, Engineering and Commerce.
 
All the courses are skill oriented and match the changing scenario of the economic activities in and around the city of Chandigarh. (KNN/SD)
