The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, Government of India has selected Chandigarh to develop as Model Solar City through CREST. The Master Plan for model solar city was prepared by the Energy and Resource Institute (TERI) and approved by the Ministry in January 2012.
The solar city is an urban area that aims to reduce dependence on fossil fuels for its energy needs; and limit emission levels to sustainable levels even while maintaining the desired socio-economic development growth.
The Department of Science and Technology, UT Chandigarh through CREST is the nodal agency for executing Solar and other renewable energy projects.
Among the solar energy initiatives to be adopted are : Solar Photo Voltaic Power Generation( Grid Connected) through roof Top Based Solar power Generation and use of landfill site for Solar Power Generation; Solar Water Heating System; and SPV Street Light system in Parks, Gardens etc.
In this context, CREST seeks bids from manufacturers of SPV module/system integrators having experience in supply, installation and commissioning of SPV power plants.
The companies should be able to design, manufacture, supply, erect, test and commission the plants at 12 different government schools here. (KNN/ES)
