Chennai MSMEs dissatisfied over govt's permission to industries in selected areas to operate

Chennai, May 6 (KNN) Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in Tamil Nadu have expressed their dissatisfaction over the government's decision to allow industries only in selected areas to resume operations on May 7.

They have also expressed a desire to start functioning at the earliest, given their losses in last two months during shut down.

“When the Government permits large companies like Hyundai, Ashok Leyland and Nissan Renault to resume operations, denying permissions to Tier II and Tier III units in the industrial estates in Ambattur, Thirumazhisai, Thirumudivakkam, Thirumullaivoyal, Kakkalur, Guindy, Perungudi, and Villivakkam, has created anxiety in the minds of these entrepreneurs,”  A.N Sujeesh, President, Ambattur Industrial Estate Manufacturers' Association, said.

“With OEMs gearing up to resume operations, there are real possibilities of orders placed with us to be given out to units in other functional clusters. This will lead to loss of orders and difficulty in retaining existing clients,” claimed Sujeesh.

Confederation of SIDCO Industrial associations has said a delayed resumption of operations will delay the disbursement of April salaries and it would result in a negative impact on the MSME clusters in this part of Tamil Nadu, which has an annual turnover of about Rs. 26,250 crore.

''Moreover, the migrant work force, housed in the estate units, has been waiting to restart the work and hence an ill-advised extension of this lockdown period could lead to a law and order problem, a release form Confederation of SIDCO Industrial associations.

The Confederation further demanded to allow MSME within Industrial Estates to operate with 50% labour and implementing the minimum stipulated SOPs with reference to the access control measures as laid down by the Central Government.
