Chhattisgarh to put in place infra to enhance sericulture activities

Under the Catalytic Development Programme (CDP) of Central Silk Board, the department will soon establish silk rearing grainage equipment in different districts of the state.
In this regard, the government has invited bids from manufacturers and selling agents to be service providers.
The main object of CDP scheme is improvement of the quality of mulberry and tasar yarn, adoption of new techniques to increase productivity, promote capital investment and to create self-employment.
Presently nine cocoon banks have been established in Chhattisgarh to purchase reared variety of tasar cocoon from the primary co-operative society, organized by tasar rearers. Reelers and weavers purchase these tasar cocoons from cocoon banks as per their requirement.
Four yarn banks have also been established for marketing of tasar yarn. (KNN/ST)
