CICU urges Punjab govt to change minimum wage due date from 1 March 2020 to current date

Ludhiana, 2 Dec (KNN) The Punjab government raised the minimum wage from INR 8776.83 to INR  9192.72 which were based on Consumer Price Index (CPI) and due on 1st March, 2020.

As per the press release, the Chamber of Industrial & Commercial Undertakings (CICU) has raised concerns following the increase in the minimum wage along with the 20 months old date.

S. Upkar Singh Ahuja, President & Pankaj Sharma, General Secretary, CICU said,  the industry is going through a very tough time and it is not in a state to bear the increases in minimum Wages as industry is trying to recover the losses incurred due to pandemic.

“Moreover, to survive, Industry are selling their products at a very competitive rate by cutting costs at all levels,” added Ahuja and Sharma.

They have stated that this will increase burden on industry which will impact the employment ratio.

The Chamber has requested the Government to start with current date rather than March 2020, as the minimum wages is already higher, so that industry can survive in this competitive era.
