CII points out to low EoDB score of Puducherry, calls for policy changes
Puducherry, July 15 (KNN) The Confederation of Indian Industry has requested the government to improve ease of doing business (EoDB) in Puducherry through policy-level changes across every department.
Expressing concern over the Puducherry’s scoring low on EoDB, the industry body said government needs to introduce policy-level changes across all 11 to 12 departments.
It has also recommended an external consultant to work with the Industries Department for development in the UT.
Addressing a media event on Thursday, Chairman S Surender and Vice Chairman A Joseph Rozario of CII as Puducherry attempts to attract industrial investment for employment, a consultant would be in a better position to consider the complexities of the ranking index.
"Puducherry has surplus power of 35 MW and the government will be getting another 100 MW from NLC. But a good system is necessary for quality power distribution to address unscheduled power cuts," the chairman added.
Although the rates will be higher privatisation would address the issue, they said.
CCI also called for a joint taskforce which would be a collaborative forum under the chairmanship of Chief Minister with an IAS officer as nodal officer.
It should be set up to monitor issues of industry, provide guidance, and fast-track implementation of projects.
The availability of land, the place, and the rate should be made available to the investors online, they suggested.
They advised the government to introduce flexi working hours in the IT and ITES industry by including them in the policy and amending labour laws.
Besides effectively utilising the MSME technology centre, and releasing Rs 40 crore pending incentives to MSME units, they said. (KNN Bureau)
