CODISSIA suggests low cost automation for MSMEs to curb workforce shortage

Coimbatore, July 11 (KNN) Coimbatore District Small Industries Association (CODISSIA) has proposed to the existing MSMEs to focus on low cost automation to curb the potential shortage of workers.

Speaking at a recent investors meet in the city, President V. Thirugnanam of CODISSIA said the electronics sector has a potential area for growth in the district.

“Investments in the engineering sector would bring work to the micro and small-scale units that did job works for larger industries,” he added.

If the situation improved, there would be shortage of manpower, hence existing MSMEs should focus on and the Association was also exploring was promoting low cost automation, he said

Thirugnanam said this would help tide over shortage in availability in availability of workers.

Although Coimbatore has large availability of skilled manpower because of the large number of engineering colleges in the district, he said that projects in electrical and electronic field would generate jobs and also leverage on the availability of skilled manpower here.

However, this might result in worker shortage too for some of the existing MSMEs, he added.  (KNN Bureau)
