Commerce Ministry officials to visit Vizag to assess damage caused to industrial projects, SEZs

Visakhapatnam, Oct 18 (KNN) The Commerce Ministry officials will be visiting the cyclone-hit Visakhapatnam for assessing the damage caused to various industrial projects, including Special Economic Zones in the city.

The Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Commerce and Industry Nirmala Sitharaman has deputed Joint Secretary D V Prasad and Rajeev Arora "to assess the damage caused to various industrial projects, including SEZs in Visakhapatnam, and suggest restoration measures," an official statement today said. 

The officials will be going to the cyclone ravaged place on October 21, 2014. 

As on August, 42 SEZs are operational in Andhra Pradesh. Out of this, about six are in Visakhapatnam and that includes Ramky Pharma and Brandix India Apparel City. 

The state of Andhra Pradesh has recently witnessed an unprecedented natural calamity. The cyclonic storm ‘Hudhud’ has caused damage to the city of Visakhapatnam and other coastal districts in Andhra Pradesh. 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced Rs 1,000 crore as interim relief for the cyclone-hit Andhra Pradesh. (KNN/SD)
