Delhi CM announces weekend curfew in national capital to contain COVID-19 spread

New Delhi, Apr 15 (KNN) In a bid to contain the spread of COVID-19 in the national capital, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday announced a weekend curfew.

All malls, gyms, spas, and auditoriums will be shut while Cinema halls will be operational with just 30 per cent seating capacity, announced the Delhi CM.

All spas, auditoriums, malls have been asked to stay closed from Friday evening. Delhi CM said that all essential services will be allowed to run.

While assuring that essential services won't be affected due to weekend curfew, Kejriwal also announced that people, who are scheduled to attend weddings in Delhi, will be given e-passes to facilitate movement during the curfew.

Kejriwal made the announcement after holding an emergency meeting with Lt Governor Anil Baijal and then with Health Minister Satyendar Jain.

"I had a meeting with Lt Governor. We have decided to impose a weekend curfew in Delhi. This is because people generally go out for work on weekdays and entertainment on weekends. So to break the chain we are imposing a weekend curfew, exempting essential services," Delhi CM said.

''No dine-in options will be allowed in restaurants and eateries,'' he added.

Delhi on Wednesday registered a new high daily COVID-19 tally of 17,282 cases, the highest single-day spike the national Capital has seen so far while the number of deaths due to COVID-19 was 104.
