Delhi CM Flags Execution Delays In Infrastructure Projects, Directs Departments To Expedite Work
New Delhi, Aug 21 (KNN) Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta in a recent meeting pulled up various government departments over delays in executing key projects, including the construction of flats for judicial officers and electric bus charging infrastructure in Dwarka, officials said. The departments were directed to expedite the work, they added.
The meeting reviewed the progress of major projects approved by the Finance Department’s Expenditure Finance Committee (EFC) last year.
Judicial Housing, E-Bus Infrastructure
A Rs 171.58-crore residential complex for judicial officers in Dwarka Sector 19 was among the projects reviewed.
The officials noted, “A Project Management Consultant (PMC) has been appointed by the Law department to finalise the tender document, but the work has not yet been awarded. The project was approved in April 2025. The CM directed the department to take immediate action against the PMC,” The Indian Express reported.
The project will comprise a multi-storey tower with 52 Type-V and 34 Type-VI quarters, along with two basements. It follows the demolition of 70 flats earlier constructed at the site after flaws were found in the buildings.
Gupta also reviewed the Rs 107.02-crore power infrastructure project for charging electric buses at Cluster Depots-I and II, ISBT in Dwarka Sector 22 and the DTC depot in Sector 8. Tender documents are being finalised, officials said.
Sewage and Prison Projects
The CM reviewed the Rs 3,104-crore sewage infrastructure project, covering 27 decentralised sewage treatment plants (STPs), a terminal sewage pumping station and a 10-MGD STP at Delhi Gate. The project is aimed at providing sewer connections to unauthorised colonies and supporting efforts to clean the Yamuna.
Work has been awarded for 11 of the 27 decentralised STPs, while tenders for 15 have been received and are to be placed before the Delhi Jal Board. Tenders have also been invited for the remaining project. The Delhi Gate STP proposal has been submitted to the National Mission for Clean Ganga for approval.
A Rs 148.58-crore high-security prison in Narela, approved last year, is expected to be completed by November 2027, according to officials.
Other projects reviewed included road strengthening works, drains and roads along the Najafgarh drain, a medical college at IGI Hospital and a sports hostel in Pitampura.
The review comes as the Delhi government seeks to accelerate execution of major infrastructure projects and address delays in projects already approved for funding.
