New Delhi, Dec 15 (KNN) A large number of drawback claims are pending for want of replies to be submitted to the query raised in Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) system run by the customs department.

A mechanism to reimburse indirect taxes consumed in an export product, drawback is very important to ensure that only a product is exported and not taxes. Exporters first pay these taxes and then claim reimbursements.  However, they routinely suffer delays in getting their drawback claims processed.

A recent public notice issued by the Commissioner of Customs (Exports) in New Delhi has clarified that the claims are not pending with the department but cannot be processed in the EDI system unless reply is filed by the exporter against whose name a query has been generated.

The exporters have been advised to visit Icegate website www.icegate.gov.in and click tracking at ICES and then tracking at ICES 1.5 to see the status of their pending drawback shipping bills.

The exporters have been asked to file their replies against the query in the EDI system. After taking printout of the query, the exporters are also required to file the reply with relevant papers to drawback section of the department.

In case of difficulties the exporters could also reach to Manoj Kumar, Deputy Commissioner (Drawback) at 011-25656074 or at email: acaircargobkdelhi@yahoo.in. (KNN/AB)
