Delhi Govt proposes ban on sale, production of Chinese Manja and other sharp kite flying threads

New Delhi, Aug 19 (KNN) Following fatal accidents in Delhi due to sharp threads of kites,  the Delhi Government has proposed to put a complete ban on sale, production, storage, supply and use of nylon, plastic and Chinese manja.

In a notice, Department of Environment, GNCTD, said in order to prevent adverse effects on human beings, cattle population, soil and ecology, Government of Delhi has proposed to impose ban on sale of kite flying thread that is sharp.

According to the draft notification, there shall be complete ban on the sale, production, storage, supply and use of nylon, plastic and Chinese manja and any other kite-flying thread that is sharp or made sharp such as by being laced with glass, metal or other sharp objects in National Capital Territory of Delhi.

It further said kite flying shall be permissible only with a cotton threat/ natural fibre free from any metallic/ glass components.

In this regard, suggestions have been called from stakeholders by August 22, 2016. (KNN Bureau)
