Delhi govt to facilitate creation of city-level women federation

New Delhi, Aug 6 (KNN) The Delhi government is planning to form a city-level women federation in Najafgarh, which will work closely with self-help groups to establish self-sustaining large-scale businesses.

Delhi revenue minister Kailash Gahlot on Friday interacted with 12 newly formed women self-help groups consisting of more than 120 women entrepreneurs in Najafgarh, which will be part of area-level federations.

Speaking about the initiative, Gahlot said that the city–level federation will help the Najafgarh area to become a women-led Micro-enterprise hub to create job opportunities for women.

“It will be the biggest microfinance institution in Delhi with over 1,000 women. Such grassroots institutions are essential for equitable economic development and to strengthen democracy,” Gahlot said. “This is in line with the Delhi government’s Rozgar Budget that aims to create 20 lakh jobs over the next five years,” he added.

Efforts are being made to achieve universal financial inclusion through the opening of basic savings accounts, building saving habits, and facilitating access to financial literacy, credit, affordable insurance, and remittance facilities to these women entrepreneurs, officials said.

As per reports, a team of 70 students from three colleges, College of Vocational Studies, Aryabhatta College, and Netaji Subhash University of Technology  have taken an initiative to help the government form city-level women federation in Najafgarh, which will work closely with self-help groups to establish self-sustaining large-scale businesses.

“This will also bring learning to students and build their entrepreneurial muscle. After their graduation, these students will use their learnings from here to become successful entrepreneurs and job providers rather than job seekers,” Gahlot, who also represents the Najafgarh assembly constituency, said.  (KNN Bureau)
