Delhi Govt To Roll Out Solarise Delhi Programme To Boost Rooftop Solar Adoption

New Delhi, Jul 23 (KNN) The Delhi government, in collaboration with power distribution companies (discoms), is planning to launch ‘Solarise Delhi’, a programme aimed at accelerating rooftop solar adoption across the city through coordinated outreach and support.

The initiative seeks to bring together government agencies, resident welfare associations (RWAs), financial institutions and vendors on a common platform to simplify adoption. It builds on a pilot model implemented in east Delhi by BSES Yamuna Power Ltd. (BYPL) under the Centre’s PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, TOI reported, citing a Delhi government official.

The programme will guide consumers through the entire process—from initial enquiry to installation and commissioning—addressing concerns around vendor selection, financing, approvals and net metering.

Awareness and Engagement

The outreach strategy will involve RWAs, market associations, educational institutions and local representatives. Planned activities include workshops, consumer camps, information kiosks, digital campaigns, SMS alerts and direct engagement with residents.

Officials said the aim is to increase awareness and enable households to reduce electricity costs while generating clean energy using rooftop spaces.

Subsidies and Financial Incentives

Households installing a 3 kW rooftop solar system can receive combined subsidies of over Rs 1 lakh under central and Delhi government schemes.

Under the PM Surya Ghar scheme, subsidies include Rs 30,000 for 1 kW systems, Rs 60,000 for 2 kW and up to Rs 78,000 for systems of 3 kW and above. The Delhi government provides an additional Rs 10,000 per kW, capped at Rs 30,000 for 3 kW systems.

Consumers are also eligible for generation-based incentives under the Delhi Solar Policy—Rs 3 per kWh for systems up to 3 kW and Rs 2 per kWh for systems between 3 kW and 10 kW. Group housing societies and RWAs can receive Rs 2,000 per kW for installations serving common facilities.

Eligibility and Application Process

Applicants must be first-time subsidy beneficiaries, have adequate shadow-free rooftop space and hold valid electricity connections. Applications are required to be submitted through both the PM Surya Ghar and Delhi Solar portals.
