Delhi HC directs FSSAI to tell authorities to strictly categorise food article as veg or non veg
New Delhi, Mar 3 (KNN) The Delhi High Court has directed the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) to communicate to all authorities to make a clear disclosure on the ingredients of food article stating whether it is veg or non veg.
This decision has been called upon to protect the fundamental rights of every person.
A bench of Justices Vipin Sanghi and D K Sharma passed the order while hearing a plea for labelling “all items” used by the public as vegetarian or non-vegetarian and the “items used in the manufacturing process”.
The submission made by the petitioner’s counsel was agreed by the High Court stating that it was pointless to issue such a communication to the authorities, and not to the general public whose fundamental rights were being affected.
It was earlier said by the court that labelling non vegetarian ingredients as vegetarian offend religious and cultural sentiments of strict vegetarians. (KNN Bureau)
