DIPP releases state startup rankings; Gujarat bags best performer rating

New Delhi, Dec 20 (KNN)

The Department of Industrial Policy & Promotion (DIPP), earlier today, released the ‘State Startup Rankings’ and rated Gujarat as the best performer in developing startup ecosystem.

According to the ‘State Startup Ranking Report’, other top performers that followed the western state were Karantaka, Kerala, Odisha and Rajasthan.

"This exercise will help all the states to improve the ecosystem for promoting startups," said Ramesh Abhishek, DIPP secretary.

At the event, DIPP said that the states have been graded according to six categories, which are: Beginners, Emerging States, Aspiring Leaders, Leaders, Top Performers and Best Performers.

The rankings were given on the basis of initiatives taken to develop startup ecosystem for promoting budding entrepreneurs.

A total of 27 states and three union territories participated in the exercise. 

The ranking framework covers seven areas of intervention and 38 action points, including policy support, incubation centres, seed funding, angel and venture funding and easier regulations. 

According to the released report, states identified as “aspiring leaders” include Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal.

While other states that have been graded as “emerging states” includes Assam, Delhi, Goa, Jammu and Kashmir, Maharashtra, Punjab, Tamil Nadu and Uttarakhand.

Besides, Chandigarh, Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland, Puducherry, Sikkim and Tripura have been graded under the “beginners” category.
