DPCC orders closure of 14 plastic carry bags manufacturing units; levies Rs 1.22 cr fine

New Delhi, July 12 (KNN) Closure notice to 14 units manufacturing plastic carry bags in Delhi was sent on Monday by the Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC).

The authority has also imposed a penalty of Rs 1.22 crore as an 'environmental compensation' on the defaulting units in Narela and Bawana industrial areas situated in North and North West districts of Delhi.

These units were making plastic bags which were less than 75 microns and packaging material that was less than 50 microns in thickness, which have been banned since July 1, 2022.

The prohibition comes under the Plastic Waste Management Rules

The Tata Power Delhi Distribution Limited has also been directed to disconnect the power supply to them.

About 26 units engaging in the sale and use of the banned single-use plastic items in markets have been fined with Rs 1.3 lakh.

To promote alternatives to SUP items a three day fair was also organised at the Thyagraj Stadium in the city.

In collaboration with United Nations Environment Programme, the Delhi government will be conducting a training to the members of eco-clubs on July 19.  (KNN Bureau)
