DPDA demands reduction of VAT on Petrol & Diesel in Delhi; announces protest closure on Oct 22

New Delhi, Oct 11 (KNN) Voicing concerns against Delhi government’s refusal to reduce value added tax (VAT ) on diesel and petrol, Delhi Petrol Dealers Association (DPDA) has resolved to observe a protest closure on October 22, 2018.

The decision was taken in a managing committee meeting convened by the Delhi Petrol Dealers Association on October 10, 2018.

Speaking to KNN India, DPDA President Nischal Singhania said, “Delhi has become expensive as the neighboring states have reduced VAT by Rs.2.5 per litre on petrol & diesel.”

In comparison to Delhi, petrol in UP and Haryana is cheaper by Rs 2.59 and Rs 1.95 per litre, respectively, while diesel in these two states is cheaper by Rs 2.02 and Rs 1.72 per litre, as on October 10.

Because of high price in Delhi and low prices in states like UP and Haryana, customers are deserting the petrol pumps in Delhi leading to huge drop in sales, he added.

“If the difference in prices continues, we assume there will be a drop of 50% in sale of diesel in Delhi and 25% in petrol in this quarter,” said Singhania.

He further informed that all the 400 pumps of Delhi will neither purchase nor sell Petrol Diesel & CNG on 22.10.18 from 6am to 6 am of the 23.10.18.

He said “Delhi Petrol dealers are protesting for reduction of VAT on Petrol & Diesel in Delhi.”

Commuters are deserting the ultra clean Euro 6 fuel available in Delhi and have started purchasing the cheaper Euro 4 fuels from neighboring states, said DPDA President.

Requesting the citizens of Delhi to support this cause, Singhania said that livelihood of owners and employees of 400 petrol pumps are at stake.
