Kolkata, Mar 5 (KNN) Eversince the application process for industrial plots in West Bengal has been made online, the number of applications received from micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) has almost doubled.

In the past three months, the West Bengal Small Industries Development Corporation (WBSIDC) has allotted 30 plots at its industrial parks and estates to set up MSME units.

The number is expected to reach 120 in a year, which is exactly double that of the last year’s.

Talking to KNN, Bisvanath Bhattacharya, President, Federation of Small and Medium Industries (FOSMI) said, “This initiative of online application process of land allotment will reduce the cumbersome process of land allotment that used to be done manually earlier as it involves lots of hassles for the industrialists.”

“Now with this platform they can choose their plots and simply apply online with no manual interference as there is no need to move around officials and bureaucrats for the land allotment now,” he said.

He further added that “Delays can be avoided with online process as there is more transparency in the process of land allotment.”

Meanwhile, the thirty plots which have been allotted by WBSIDC are mostly in Bolpur, Ambari Falakata and Behrampore.

The state government made the process of allotting plots online from October 31.

The move has been a great step towards improving ease of doing business environment in the state.

Minimizing the manual interference, after the online application system the industrialists are getting call from WBSIDC within weeks of applying with all required documents.

The land then gets allotted to the industrialist if the project is found viable. (KNN/YV)
