ESIC row: hospital in Mohali may start functioning soon

New Delhi, Nov 2 (KNN) In a judgment to the PIL admitted in the Punjab and Haryana High Court by the Mohali Industries Association (MIA) against the Employee State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) and Director Health Services, the High Court on 25 October directed ESIC to submit 42.63 lakhs for the maintenance of ESIC hospital in Mohali.

According to ESIC ACT 1988, the insurance get deducted from the workers’ salary every month and ESIC is required to transfer funds to the workers account to within 21 days of the medical claim. ESIC owe over 2.5 crore to the workers of the MIA and the bills are lying pending with ESIC since 2 years.

Mohali District Association’s Chairman Jasbir Singh told KNN that the latest high court decision is a relief because ESIC hospital in Mohali is lying defunct with no doctors and medicines and most of the areas lack dispensaries for basic medical services.

He further said that the ESIC receive around Rs.10 crore monthly from 2 lakh employees of MIA and earns a countrywide profit 4000 crore   but provides no service to workers.

He added that the Association is hopeful that high court would soon come up with a decision which will provide relief to the workers. (KNN/AG)
