Jammu, Apr 8 (KNN)  A large number of refund claims have piled up with the Central Excise Office here resulting in poor performance of the industrial sectors in the state, a leading industry association of the region has said.

“Due to negative attitude of the Central Excise office of Jammu, the refund claims have been lying in the department since long, resulting in the blockage of funds,” said Bari Brahmana Industries Association of Jammu (BBIA) in a statement here today.

It is some clarification sought by the Jammu Excise Commissioner from the Chief Commissioner in Chandigarh.  The matter has also been sent to the Finance Ministry in New Delhi.

“Till date no action has been taken by the Finance Ministry to resolve the issues.  A number of cases are lying in the courts due to withdrawal of incentives in between…. resulting in the loss of crores of rupees.” BBIA said.

Considering that Jammu and Kashmir is land locked, there are limited marketing avenues for the sector.  “Growth in the industrial sector cannot be achieved without the fiscal incentives,” it said.

The state had suffered many challenges owing to militancy since 1990.  Yet, the industrial sector had employed about 5 lakh both through direct and indirect employment.

“As per our opinion the Government of India and the state government should take corrective steps to resolve the issue on priority basis which will help in the substantial growth of the small scale sector; which will provide employment to unemployed youth of the state,” the association said.  (KNN)
