Garvi-Gurjari National Craft Fair and Summit 2014 begins today

Ahmedabad, Feb 21 (KNN)  Gujarat Ministry of Cottage Industries has organized a national craft fair, beginning today to showcase handloom and handicraft products from the state and across the country.  It will provide a platform for various crafts, enabling artisans to interact with buyers directly.

Aimed at increasing business potential of artisans and craftsmen, "Garvi-Gurjari National Craft Fair and Summit 2014" will be held from February 21 to 27, at Gujarat University Convention Centre here.

The event will feature live demonstration of various crafts including metal, wood and bamboo from as many as 400 exhibitors and artisans. It will also highlight the work of young crafts men and new designers, enhanced with various cultural programmes.

As many as 10 theme pavilions will represent different states at the exhibition, with separate pavilions for tribal crafts, designs and fashion and raw materials.

As far as the seminar is concerned, it will cover topics concerning the current scenario of the crafts sector. These include craft mapping, craft design innovations, building crafts, marketing and branding, technological advancements, and craft education and skill development.

Around 1,000,000 visitors are expected at the seven-day national event.

The Garvi Gurjari National Craft Fair and Summit-2014 is a unique and one of its kind initiative from the state government to highlight various crafts from across the country. The fair will be a curtain raiser to connect the crafts, the artisans and the buyers from across the country under one roof.  (KNN/ST)
