Goa to bat for tax exemption on traditional taitr under Goods and Services tax

New Delhi, Nov 1 (KNN) With the Goods and Services tax entering its fifth month since implementation, representative from Goa has raised concerns over the traditional taitr being charged under the new tax regime.

Goa’s representative on the panel of GST council, Mauvin Godinho is expected to raise the concern at the upcoming meeting of the GST council in Guwahati on November 10.

Tiatr is a type of musical theatre popular in the state of Goa.

The Official is also to take up exemption of local theatre and nataks under the GST.

Godinho in a press interview informed that these businesses being traditional in nature and closely linked to the native culture of the region shouldn’t be taxed; therefore he will be taking up the issue with the GST council in the next meeting.

Under the One Nation One Tax regime, tiatr, drama whose turnover crosses Rs 20 lakh a year now falls under the 18 per cent tax slab.

Earlier, as the tickets were priced under Rs 500, they were exempted from entertainment tax even if their turnover was Rs 20 lakh per year. (KNN/DA)
