30,000 MSMEs in Goa may benefit from RAMP scheme

Panaji, July 13 (KNN) The Raising and Accelerating MSME Performance (RAMP) scheme, whose implementation began in Goa on Thursday is set to benefit around 30,000 MSME units in the state, according to a report by Navhind Times.

As per reports, the goa government has appointed consultancy firm KPMG to conduct a baseline survey on MSMEs, so as to put the scheme in action.

The survey will collect information on the MSME ecosystem in the state. It will collect data regarding the number of units, their growth trajectory, employees (skilled and unskilled), production,  exports and other aspects.

“Goa is eligible for funds under the scheme. But the disbursal amount depends on feasible proposals put forward by the state. The scheme has a total fund outlay of Rs 6,000 crore. The Centre has kept flexible the fund allocation to states,” reported Navhind Times stating a government source.

The first meeting for the implementation of the scheme, which was organised by the department of industries, trade and commerce aimed at reaching out to local units on the problems faced by them in functioning. According to industry, access to bank credit remains a hurdle with banks delaying in disbursing loans. Furthermore matching quality of local products with goods produced in other states is also an issue.

To support recovery of MSMEs from the COVID-induced distress, the MSME ministry had launched the World Bank-aided scheme through the Union budget 2023-24. The RAMP scheme will be implemented for a period of five years. Of the total outlay of Rs 6,000 crore, the World Bank will contribute Rs 3,750 crore by way of loan, while Rs 2,312 crore will be funded by the Union government.

Under the scheme, each state has to prepare an SIP that gives an overview of the MSME sector, the key constraints facing units, gaps in the intervention, marketing and financing challenges, environmental and occupational health and safety standards challenges and greening infrastructure.  (KNN Bureau)
