CII urges Goa govt to introduce green shipbuilding policy

Panaji, June 13 (KNN) Considering the potential in the green shipbuilding sector, Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) has recommended that Goa should introduce a policy supporting and encouraging green shipbuilding both in design and manufacturing.

During a meeting with chief Minister Pramod Sawant, the CII delegation suggested that apart from supporting the shipbuilding sector, this would also support employment generation for the state as shipbuilding has the highest employment multiplier under manufacturing.

At the meeting, the industry body outlined a slew of sustainable measures that the state government can adopt to reduce the damage on the environment.

It asked the government to encourage industrial rooftop installations. CII has also recommended open access and captive solar plants to be included in the policy.

One of the major sectors where CII Goa has recommended policy changes is in the real estate industry, where it has urged the state government to encourage sustainable construction practices.

Currently, the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) is working with the Centre and with various states to promote certification of sustainable buildings through green ratings.

The CII delegation, which was led chairman Anirudh Agrawal, offered to provide information on the best practices being successfully followed by other states.

Agrawal has also suggested measures to strengthen Goa’s reputation as a destination for industrial investment.

“The Goa government must connect with the industries outside the state to showcase the investment opportunities in the state and also to attract quality tourism in the state. Goa must also consider mounting a state delegation to the World Economic Forum in Davos. This will strengthen the brand image of Goa globally,” he said.

CII has also recommended a roadshow in other important cities like Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad and Bengaluru.  (KNN Bureau)
