Govt keen to build brand Punjab as No 1 one state in terms of food processing

New Delhi, Jun 13 (KNN) In order to bring down food inflation in the country, the government is keen to fill the gap between ‘farm and shelf’ and focus on making Punjab number one State in terms of food processing by improving the market linkages to build brand Punjab.

Minister for Food Processing Industries, Harsimrat Kaur Badal said that her priority is reduction of poverty by bringing the food inflation down and to do that Food Processing Sector has to play central role in driving improvements in the country and in filling the gap between ‘farm and shelf’, here last evening. 

She said that “to feed increasing population, food shall be a very critical sector and apart from driving food processing growth, India would need to turn wastage of fruits and vegetables into packaged food and to do that all States need to focus on food processing industries.” 

With a view to giving a boost to the food processing industries in Punjab, Badal met officials of various Food Processing government undertakings like Milkfed, Markfed, Punjab Agro and asked them to build Brand Punjab and focus on making Punjab number one State in terms of food processing.

The Minister also studied the practices being followed by various organizations in Punjab and suggested improvements and more market linkages. Talking to officials, she emphasized that all States need to make their own brands, like ‘Brand Punjab’ which can be marketed globally both by government and the states. 

Badal also met Food Processing Commissioner of Punjab and discussed ways and means to improve food technology; and Head of the Food Science and Technology Department of Guru Nanak Dev University, Nripendra Singh. (KNN/SD)
