Bengaluru, Sept 16 (KNN)  Government Tool Room and Training Centres (GTTCs) that assist small scale industries in technology upgradation through the use of quality tools will be soon set up in Udupi, Gokak, Chitradurga and Yadgir.

To begin with, the Government Tool Room and Training Centre (GTTC) sanctioned for Udupi will be set up at Uppoor at the cost of Rs 10 crore grant provided by National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD), a TOI report said quoting Minister for small scale industries, Satish Jarkiholi.

The Minister who was on a visit to review progress of small scale industries of Udupi district went on to say that similar GTTCs will also be set up at Gokak, Chitradurga and Yadgir, assuring that trainees from the centres will receive placement on completion of the training.

Interacting with the Minister, President, Udupi District Small Industries Association, Chittaranjan Bhat aired their grievances.  On the issue of tax imposed on those using generators above 250kVA, the Minister told Udupi District Small Industries Association that he would look into the matter.

Bhat pointed out that SSIs are dependent on captive power generation to run their industries in view of load shedding.  He said that state sales tax exempt diesel that was made available at IOC depots earlier is not available for the past four years. Bhat also urged the minister to ensure that rules are put in place that mandates agencies executing state or central government projects to compulsorily source products manufactured by SSI units in respective districts, the TOI report added.

The Minister acknowledged the fact that the number of small scale industries in the district of Udupi is comparatively less.  He said the department would take necessary steps to ensure that SSIs live up to their job of creating potential for the youth.

He also assured that the export training programmes currently being held in Bengaluru will also be held in other districts; as also training to entrepreneurs each year.   (KNN/bureau)
