In view of this, Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) has decided to crackdown on polluting industrial units and restaurants in the city from next week as the deadline to shift to approved fuels has ended.

On June 29, the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi, Department of Environment (DPCC) had come out with a list of approved fuels in the national territory of Delhi, which includes BS-VI diesel and petrol (with 10 ppm Sulphur), Natural Gas (CNG and PNG), LPG and biogas, aviation turbine fuel, wood charcoals for tandoors and grills of hotels/restautants/banquet halls/eating houses having emission channelization and control systems, refuse derived fuel (only for Waste-to Energy plants.

With regard to use of approved fuels, the notification said that the existing industries/units shall convert/switch over from existing fuels to approved fuels within 90 days from the date of issue of notification, following which actions will be taken against violators.

Industrial units and restaurants were given a period of 90 days starting from July this year to switch to approved fuels as mentioned in the draft notification, which ended on September 30, 2018.

The polluting units operating from the industrial zones were directed to shift to PNG and the restaurants using charcoal were directed to install emission channelization and control systems to minimize pollution.”

For this, they were given a period of 90 days starting from July this year and anyone found using any unapproved fuel will have to face actions after that, he added.
